P2. Design and Target Audience

Octonauts

The character is in the shape of a normal turtle, they are blue, the shape is built up of circles along the body, head and eyes and lines to form the mouth, there is a clear outline around the entire shape, it feels as though the character is trying to copy the shape of it as much as possible but as close to as animation as possible.

I think that the look of the character goes well with the tv series as it is a Disney show so follows the general look of how an animation is, it works as its not far off the actual overall look but with a kids twist by adding in some different colours.

Pokemon

The Pokemon character resembles a light blue turtle, It has brown eyes and a small hooked upper lip, both hands and feet are pointed with three digits, the tail is curled inwards and it carries a shell, as a turtle does, it is brown on the top and pale yellow under with a thick ridge that is white between them. The character has a small black outline and is made up of basic shapes to form it's shape, its eyes are big and the colours are unique to give it its cute appearance.

This works with the show as it is identical to other characters, the characters have their own individual look and the target audience of teens, the overall design works as its not to far away from the animal itself but has its own unique style that works for the audience.

The characters are more human-like with the qualities, in the way they stand, it follows the basic shape, the legs are created with the use of two oval shapes with some brown padding across the knee section, the feet are in the human shape and have a brown cloth covering them. The arms are in the same style as the legs, all with three digits at the end to hands and feet. They have a round head with a mask in different colours over them in blue, purple, orange and red. Its colour is all green and they each carry a weapon, with a brown body armor for each.

I think that this animation is more realistic than the others as they try and follow a persons shape with the obvious qualities of a turtle. This is great for the show as its action packed and as it has a more realistic character than the others so it fits in with the show.

Adventure Time

The character in this is more simplistic with the animation, made up with basic lined shapes that are curved to design the look of the character. The arms and legs are simple and thin, unlike the others it does not include digits at the end them. The hands, arms and face are all light brown and the face has simple curved lines downwards for the eyes and a mouth with two teeth showing. The hair is yellow and long with a green tiara on top, the shell is turquoise with a slightly darker brown over the edges. The body of the character is the same colour as the tiara and has lines going over the stomach area.

This character's design is perfect for the show as it is suited for young children, the simplistic design of the character target young children with the 'princess' look to go with the tiara, by the way the legs are curved where it meets the body shows how heavy the shell is so keeps some of the characteristics of a turtle but giving it the look of a basic animated drawing, which you can tell simply by how the design is targeted at young children.
